This scenic circular route starts at Coimbatore, climbs steadily towards Mettupalayam, then ascends the Nilgiris via Coonoor, Wellington, Sims Park, and Kattalatta, continuing to the hill station of Kotagiri before descending back through Mettupalayam, Sirmugai, Annur, Karumathampatti, and finally returning to Coimbatore. The journey is renowned for its dramatic changes in elevation and lush landscapes.

Elevation Profile

Coimbatore (approx. 400 m): The route begins from the plains, with Coimbatore located at around 400 meters elevation.

Mettupalayam (325 m): The path travels north and gently descends to Mettupalayam, known as a gateway to the Nilgiris hills.

Coonoor, Wellington, Sims Park, Kattalatta (up to 1,800–2,000 m): The road rises steeply as it enters the Nilgiris, with Coonoor and surrounding locations like Wellington and Sims Park sitting at elevations from 1,800 to 2,000 meters. This section features hairpin bends and lush hill scenery.

Kotagiri (1,793–1,950 m): The highest point on the route, Kotagiri is a major hill station at an average elevation of 1,950 meters, surrounded by valleys and tea estates.

Return via Mettupalayam, Sirmugai: The road again descends rapidly, passing through smaller settlements.

Annur (338–381 m): Annur is situated on flatter terrain with an average elevation of about 338 to 381 meters.

Karumathampatti: Typically similar in elevation to Annur and Coimbatore, remaining close to 350–400 meters.
